F 850 GS Adventure model added to next year’s line-up.
BMW Motorrad has confirmed its superbike contender, the S 1000 RR, will receive a host of upgrades for 2019 following an announcement at EICMA, while it’s also introducing a new F 850 GS Adventure model.
BMW’s fascinating brief was to take the predecessor S 1000 RR model – which has been a strong force in all disciplines for 10 years – and significantly improve on its performance. The brand translated it into straightforward targets: one second faster on the track, more than 10kg lighter and easier to control.
With a completely newly developed engine and suspension, engine output increased by 8hp to 207 hp, and a weight reduction of 208kg to 197kg , the supersport bike originally launched in 2009 now goes into its third completely new generation.
In addition to enhanced performance, other focus points were to make the new RR at least one second faster than its predecessor, create a more user-friendly design and ensure it offered maximum controllability and ridability. Whether in everyday use, on winding country roads or for high-performance race track riding – the new RR leaves nothing to be desired.
In particular because BMW Motorrad has moved the assistance systems such as traction and wheelie control, ABS and Hill Start Control to a whole new level – the same applies to the LED lighting system and large TFT screen.
BMW Motorrad is successfully introducing the product strategy familiar from M automobiles, now offering M options and M Performance Parts for the S 1000 RR model.
An M package and M optional equipment will be available ex works for a motorcycle for the first time. The range of products available for the new RR is also rounded off with an extensive selection of M Performance Parts as part of the accessories program.
The M package for the new BMW S1000 RR comprises of Motorsport paint finish, M carbon fibre wheels, M light weight battery, M Chassis Kit with rear ride height adjustment and swingarm pivot, M sport seat and Pro Mode.
For more than 10 years, the GS models in the BMW Motorrad F series have embodied the premium range in the middle class travel and adventure enduro segment. High-level touring capability, absolute long-distance suitability, sporty dynamic riding and superior offroad qualities are its outstanding strengths.
Following the newly developed BMW F 750 GS and F 850 GS presented in autumn 2017, the new F 850 GS Adventure now expands the premium BMW Motorrad range in this segment. Based on the dynamic and off-road oriented character of the F 850 GS, the new Adventure ideally unites agility and touring capability as well as increased off-road competence and outstanding long-distance qualities.
Like the legendary boxer-engined BMW GS Adventure role models, the new F 850 GS Adventures now offers dedicated travel enduro riders, off-road oriented touring riders and globetrotters the perfect companion in the middle class for exploring the remote corners of the planet by motorcycle. Pricing and availability for both models in Australia are still to be confirmed.
