Earlier this week, Chinese EV manufacturer, Super Soco unveiled its new CT-3 maxi-scooter, at the 19th annual China International Motorcycle Trade Exhibition. Super Soco has a diverse portfolio from scooters to entry-level motorcycles, and the addition of a maxi-scooter further strengthens its line-up.
The CT-3 features a prominent fascia with twin-pod LED headlights and a short windscreen like most other maxi-scooters. The tail end is rather significant, as well, with LED taillights and turn signals that are stacked vertically. At first glance, the CT-3 resembles the BMW C 400 GT gas-powered scooter. Speaking of, Super Soco seems to have the German manufacturer’s electric scooter, the CE-04, in its crosshairs with the introduction of the CT-3.
The CT-3 also packs a decent amount of modern features that we’ve come to expect from EVs. Zigwheels has reported that the scooter features a large 7-inch TFT display that offers smartphone connectivity and reverse parking assistance. Powering the scooter is a belt-driven 18kW motor that works alongside a 7.2kWh battery pack, which takes a claimed 3 hours for a full charge (pretty quick!) Super Soco also claims that the CT-3 has a top speed of 125kmph (77.6mph) and a range of 180km (111 miles) on a full charge.
Super Soco is a joint Chinese-Australian venture and sells its products in multiple markets, including the U.S. There’s no official information about when the product will reach our shores, but a launch seems imminent.
Super Soco’s CPx is now arriving in Australia. The CPx is the brands first full-size, high output electric scooter and you can check it out now at your local dealership, assuming you’re not in lockdown!
The CPx has already proven itself as a successful model in the UK and has been designed from the ground up to meet the needs of the urban professional and the CPx is now Britain’s top selling scooter.
The CPx lands in Australia from $7690 Ride Away.
A 16” front and 14” rear wheel set-up promises stable and smooth handling paired with supple suspension.
The single disc front and rear are linked by a combined braking system which means that only one finger is required to activate both brakes.
Braking comes via a pair of disc brakes which are linked via CBS for added safety.
A screen and luggage rack are included as standard.
Four-kW of emission free power provides performance comparable to 125 cc scooter and the CPX comes standard with a single removable Lithium Ion ATL pouch cell battery that provides a range of over 60 kilometres. A full recharge is possible in just 3-4 hours via the standard charging system. A second battery can be fitted that will double that range and is a $2300 option. Top speed is quoted as 90 km/h.
The CPx comes installed with an advanced battery management system to keep your batteries in peak condition for longer. USB charging is available to keep you connected on the go and the CPx also benefits from a reverse function to help you manoeuvre easily into even the tightest of spots. Keyless ignition, an in-built alarm and a wheel locking function are all standard features.
The CPx will be available in three colours including Sonic Silver, Titanium Grey and Phantom Black, from $7,690 Ride-Away.
A Ducati-branded Chinese-made electric scooter will be imported by Perth-based company Vmoto through Urban Moto Imports, arriving in July at about $5000.
They also emphasised that the scooters were not a Ducati product, but “an electric scooter that wears Ducati’s colours, no more than that under a licensing agreement”.
However, it now appears that they will be sold here in a partnership between Urban Moto Imports and Vmoto.
The fully electric moped is based on the Super SOCO CUx model with special edition sporting Ducati livery.
$5000 ‘Ducati’
Ducati Racing will also use the Super SOCO full electric range of motorcycles and scooters as their preferred “paddock transport” throughout the 2019 MotoGP series.
Super SOCO Spokesman Andy Fenwick says the special Ducati version of the CUx moped would help “add even more credibility to the SOCO range”.
Urban Moto Imports CEO Joseph Elasmar confirms the Special Edition CUx Ducati will be available through the Super SOCO dealer network with pre-orders soon.
“We are expect pricing to be set around $5000,” he says.
Super Soco CUx
The Super Soco CUx scooter is available with four removable battery options for range of 60km to 120km from the 2700 watt maximum Bosch electric motor.
It also features a HD front camera with night vision and a G-force sensor that automatically activates the camera and sends video to a mobile phone in the event of a crash.
Other features include a high resolution dashboard, LED headlight, USB dock and smartphone connectivity that allows the rider to check the battery status.
In 2015, there was the e-Scrambler painted in Scrambler Urban Enduro colours. It was made under licence to Ducati by Italwin, an Italian company specialising in pedal-assisted electric bicycles.
In 2017, Ducati Western Europe managing director Edouard Lotthe said they were looking at both scooters and electrics, while VW Group Chairman Matthias Mueller said Ducati would have an electric motorcycle by 2020.
In the same year the Ducati Zero futuristic design concept was produced by the Milano Scuola Politecnica di Design (Design Polytechnic School).
In 2018, Ducati unveiled its first electric mountain bike, the MIG-RR.
“The future is electric, we’re not far from starting series production,” he said.
So there could be more electrics from Ducati soon, rather than just a licensing agreement for luxury scooters.
The agreement was signed a couple of weeks ago, but it us still unclear where the scooters will be sold.
Apparently the scooters will be used as pit vehicles by the Ducati MotoGP team, but whether they will be available or sale anywhere outside of South East Asia remains a mystery.
We tried to contact Vmoto for comment and received this email reply from Super SOCO importer Urban Moto Imports:
We are still working through the processes and complexities that have arisen, and a press release is expected to be circulated in the coming days, which will explain what will happen in the future regarding these scooters.
Vmoto originally said the Ducati/Vmoto scooter would be marketed as a “high-end luxury product at a premium price” and sold globally over the next two years through the “existing worldwide distribution network”.
Meanwhile, Ducati Australia says they will not be sold here.
They emphasise that the scooters are not a Ducati product, but “an electric scooter that wears Ducati’s colours, no more than that under a licensing agreement”.
However, the deal does show that Ducati is not shrinking away from the coming electric two-wheel revolution.

Whoever thought they would hear the words “Ducati” and “electric scooters” in the same sentence?
But now it seems Chinese manufacturer Vmoto has signed a licence agreement with the Italian manufacturer to make luxury electric scooters under the Ducati brand.
They will be sold worldwide through current distribution networks, so they could be coming here.

The new licence deal signed with Vmoto will result in “CUX special Ducati edition” electric scooters.
Vmoto already make cheap electric scooters and motorcycles under the Super Soco brand which are available in Australia.
The top-of-the-range TS11200R electric motorcycle costs just $4990 ride away but has only 22km of range.

They say the Ducati/Vmoto CUX scooter will be marketed as a “high-end luxury product at a premium price” and sold globally over the next two years.
Vmoto and Ducati say they will promote the CUX special edition to the “existing worldwide distribution network”.
Ducati is imported by Frasers Motorcycles and Super Soco by Urban Moto Imports.
There is no word yet on whether they will be imported here or which importer would bring them in.
However, Vmoto managing director Charles Chen says the deal is partly intentioned to further grow Vmoto’s product awareness in Europe.
Urban Moto to bring Super SOCO electric motorcycles to Australia

Super SOCO TC

Urban Moto Imports added that it is excited to embrace the new era electric motorcycles and strongly believes Super SOCO will become a strong brand in Australia.
Joseph Elasmar – Urban Moto Imports CEO
“We are forever in a changing landscape for both motorcycles, motorcycle culture and transport for the general public. Electric powered vehicles are already beginning to become the norm and for many reasons including their practicality of being less expensive to run, their low environmental impact and affordability for high quality. In congested built up cities, Super SOCO electric motorcycles offer the general non-driving community, the chance to own an affordable and economical form of transport that is light, practical and good looking at the same time. Commuting just became that little bit more special with the Super SOCO and we are very confident it will lead the way in the electric motorcycles space.”
Super SOCO Australia & NZ have also announced the model lineup to include Super SOCO TS, TC and the C-UX scooter variants.
Super SOCO TS
The Super SOCO ‘TS’ TS1200R is an electric ‘moped’ as the brand describes it, and is developed in co-operation with Bosch, and designed to meet the needs of modern riders.
Super SOCO TS

Super SOCO TS
A FOC or field orientated control system is used as an ECU and brain of the e-bike, with a large LCD display featuring three different modes and keyless locking system.
Super SOCO TC
The Super SOCO TC is a cafe racer styled option with a higher torque output than the TS – 150Nm compared to 120Nm – and also features a three-speed proportional drive system, working similarly to a gearbox or ride modes. Styling features include the retro headlight, heightened ‘bars, leather clad flat seat and eight-split-spoke wheels.
Super SOCO TC
A Bosch 17-in magnetic power motor is featured and delivers that strong torque figure thanks to two Lithium battery packs with overcharge protection, over discharge protection and temperature protection. Like the TS, the TC offers up to a 160km range.
Super SOCO TC
The three gear options further provide differing levels of performance from energy effecient through to maximised performance. The CBS brake system features a 240mm disc brake with twin-piston floating caliper on the front, and 180mm rear disc with single-piston floating caliper.
