The Humble Heroes Project

From Press Release:

There are humble heroes all around us—the ones you don’t hear about, who forego sleep and work impossible hours in constant danger, the ones who battle on the front lines of the pandemic and put themselves last to take care of us first.

There are many words to describe them—professional, compassionate, selfless, dedicated, brave, tireless—but we simply call them Heroes.

At Dunlop, we want to honor these Humble Heroes by giving you the opportunity to nominate a healthcare worker or first responder who went above and beyond during the pandemic, and we’ll reward one individual with a new 2020 Harley-Davidson® XL1200 Sportster Roadster™

The Humble Heroes Project

Dunlop has a special appreciation for those who stepped up during the pandemic. Our factory in Buffalo, NY was designated essential early in the crisis, and our associates showed up, masked up and continued to do what they do best every day—build premium tires for the American motorcyclist.

Harley-Davidson’s Sportster Roadster was a natural for this project. Dunlop has been a trusted original-equipment tire supplier to Harley-Davidson for more than 35 years—over ten million Dunlop tires have rolled off the motor company assembly line—and the iconic Sportster is popular among new riders and offers many customizing variations.

To emphasize this, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires is collaborating with long-time partner Roland Sands Design (RSD) to create custom variations of the Sportster over the coming months featuring different Dunlop tires. The winner of this contest will receive a new 2020 Harley-Davidson XL1200 Sportster Roadster in stock condition. RSD’s builds will showcase what a great platform the stock Sportster is for customizing, and you will be able to follow along through Dunlop and RSD social networks: #humbleheroes, #wearedunlop, #ridedunlop, @rolandsandsdesigns, @ridedunlop.

“Nobody has seen a crisis with the global effects of Covid-19 before, and hopefully nobody ever will again,” said Mike Buckley, Senior VP, Sales and Marketing, Dunlop Motorcycle Tires. “Hard to imagine how much worse this could have been without the health care heroes and first responders on the front lines every day and night. The Humble Heroes Project is our way of giving a little back and saying thanks for all you have done.” Make sure you view the contest information about The Humble Heroes Project as soon as the program kicks off on September 3, 2020. Dunlop extend adventure tyre line-up with Trailmax Mission

Dunlop announce Trailmax Mission Adventure tyre

In the new Trailmax Mission tyre Dunlop have acknowledged the increasingly high demands many riders require when looking at a 50/50 dual-sport tyre, where riders are increasingly expecting less compromises with their tyre choice.

To deliver this Dunlop looked at the expertise of Sumitoto who they acquired in 2015, and the highly successful Falken Wildpeak off-road light truck tyre, with technology and elements from the Wildpeak incorporated into the new Mission.

Trailmax Mission Adventure tyre

After two years of development the Mission is claimed to  offers almost knobby-like off-road performance, alongside high levels of grip on the road with a strong focus on ride quality and stability.

Durability was also a goal, with testing showing the Mission rear tyre offering 8000 miles, with the new tyre extensively tested at Dunlops Huntsville Proving Grounds in all conditions, as well as on the street.

The Mission offers the optimal combination of Dunlop’s dirt and street tyre technology, offering unmatched versatility.

Rather than offering a one-design-fits-all tyre, Dunlop have tuned the front and rear tyres specifically for the various ADV machines on the market, ensuring optimal performance and longevity on every machine.

Staggered Step technology was also incorporated into both front and rear tyres, giving the side knobs more rigidity and lug stability to prevent flex. This creates more biting edges, ensuring as the tread wears the next biting edge steps up, with the rear featuring different sized and shaped lateral blocks as a result of testing.

Features of the Trailmax Mission include the following

1. Improved Tread Grooves
Deep tread grooves help the Mission deliver unyielding grip in a wide variety of terrain.

2. Staggered Step

3. Aggressive Upper Sidewall
Wrap-around side lugs add rigidity and durability in rocky terrain, and improve steering in sand, mud and gravel.

Aggressive Upper Sidewall
Wrap-around side lugs add rigidity and durability in rocky terrain, and improve steering in sand, mud and gravel.

The wrap-around side-lug was inspired by the Falken Wildpeak, adding rigidity and durability in rocky terrain, as well as allowing lower pressures to be run off-road with less risk of pinch flats, alongside thicker sidewall rubber. Other benefits include boosting steering stability in tricky conditions and making it easier to steer out of ruts off-road on the bike adventure bikes.

Both front and rear Mission tyres also feature a higher land/sea ratio, with 60 per cent land to boost road performance compared to the more dirt orientated and highly popular D606 which offers 30 per cent land ratio. Deeper tread depth also adds to the Mission’s features in comparison to the Trailsmart.

Trailmax Mission Adventure tyre

The Trailmax Mission is a bias tyre, as this construction is generally considered superiour for off-road use, with tread and sidewall elements designed as a single element, while a similar heavy-duty material as found in the American Elite and Elite 4 touring tyres was also used.

Designed and produced in Bufallo, New York alongside the brand’s premium touring and high-performance racing tyres, this is the first off-road capable tyre out of this facility.

New Geomax MX53 Dunlop intermediate-hard

New Dunlop Geomax MX53 announced

Ficeda have introduced Dunlop’s next generation intermediate-to-hard terrain off-road MX tyre – the Geomax MX53. Designed to offer more performance in a wider variety of terrains, the MX53 excels on hard-packed tracks while also offering greater versatility in intermediate riding conditions.

Dunlop Geomax MX
Dunlop’s new Geomax MX53 intermediate to hard terrain tyre

With upgraded technology, the Dunlop MX53 aims to offer riders more versatility with better performance. This is in part due to the all-new tread pattern on both the front and rear tyres. A revolutionary horseshoe shaped cluster of knobs has been added to the front tyre. This acts as a giant claw to dig into the ground and give the rider improved traction on hard-packed terrain and maximizes braking grip.

The Geomax MX53 now also features Dunlop’s patented ‘Progressive Cornering Block’ technology on the front tyre. This technology, commonly known as Block-In-A-Block, allows enhanced flex on each knob resulting in ultimate grip and even more biting edges.

This bold new pattern of blocks have a hollowed-out portion on the center tread, resulting in less stiffness in the center of the tyre, giving riders better feedback and more compliance. Paired with a taller profile, this new MX53 front tyre provides gentler handling, more traction, higher lean angles and better maneuverability when compared to its predecessor.

Dunlop’s patented Block-In-A-Block technology on the rear tyre borrows from the success of the upgrades in technology added to the Geomax MX33, Dunlop’s soft-to-intermediate tyre. Incorporating these block designs that have already proven successful now give the MX53 more biting edges, increased grip and enhanced flex on each individual knob. These elements all contribute to enhance durability and performance in harder terrains.

The compound that was chosen for the MX53 tyres has a high number of molecular polymer particles. This results in a higher fracture strength, meaning more durability. Dunlop has also added more fine carbon particles. The carbon particles are what give the Geomax tyres their legendary grip. More durability, more grip. What more could you ask for?
