Muc-Off has been announced as title sponsor of the Konsky Motorsport-operated Honda team for 2021, signing Justin Brayton, Mitchell Oldenburg and Mitchell Harrison.

The motorcycle care and maintenance brand replaces Penrite as title sponsor, expanding into 450SX in Monster Energy Supercross alongside its existing 250SX effort.

It had already been confirmed that Brayton would be transferring from Team Honda HRC to the team in which he’s won four-consecutive Australian championships, while Oldenburg returns for a second season and Harrison has been named as replacement of Luke Clout.

“I am really pleased that we can finally shout about our plans for 2021,” Konsky said. “It has been four months in the making, with a final push at the 11th-hour to get to this point. Now we are here, I am keen to start seeing results.

“Working with Muc-Off as our new title sponsor for next year has been really refreshing. Their ethos and work ethic has been instrumental in getting us here and I am looking forward to seeing this relationship develop.”

Brayton commented: “It’s super-exciting to be working closely with Yarrive again for 2021, especially with him bringing an exciting new brand to the table – his passion and enthusiasm for this sport has been a positive influence on me.

“We have seen a lot of success in Australia, so I hope to relive this in the US next year. I have been riding the new 2021 CRF 450R and I am feeling comfortable on it, testing has been great so now I just need to put it all together and focus on a strong and consistent season.”

Muc-Off will be supplying the team with a full supply of their innovative motorcycle products from their Clean, Protect and Lube systems. This includes the renowned pink Nano Tech Bike Cleaner, the flagship product that launched the brand back in 1994.

“When I started the company it was a dream of mine to be working at the pinnacle levels of motorsport, so I am pumped that we are at the point where we can be title sponsors of an exciting Supercross team in such a dynamic and globally admired series,” stated Alex Trimnell, Muc-Off CEO.

“We look forward to working with the Muc-Off Honda team in developing new and exciting products, as well as supporting them in their mission to be a leading player in the sport. To see the brand with so much presence at this level of racing, makes me very and this I know is shared throughout the whole team at Muc-Off.”

HEP becomes lead Suzuki team and confirms Hartranft signing

450 class rookie to join Anstie and Enticknap in new-look primary effort.

HEP Motorsports has become the lead Suzuki team in Monster Energy Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross for 2021, adding Brandon Hartranft to its three-rider roster.

It’s been no secret that former TLD KTM rider Hartranft was moving up to the 450 class with HEP alongside the returning Max Anstie and Adam Enticknap.

Twisted Tea will remain the title sponsor of HEP through next season, with Suzuki extending its commitment to the program after the closure of outgoing factory team JGRMX.

Of this year’s JGRMX Suzuki riders, Joey Savatgy has signed with Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM, Alex Martin has a Manluk Rock River Yamaha Merge Racing deal and Fredrik Noren will be Kawasaki-mounted in an independent effort.

All three riders will compete within the premier class riding factory-backed RM-Z450 machinery next season, the squad set to formally debut at Houston’s Supercross season-opener on Saturday, 16 January.

KTM Group broadens factory Australian commitment for 2021

KTM Group broadens factory Australian commitment for 2021

KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas launch in-house teams ahead of new year.

A broadened factory Australian motocross, supercross, enduro and desert commitment has been outlined by KTM Group for 2021, featuring unprecedented in-house programs for the KTM, Husqvarna and GasGas brands.

Each manufacturer will have single-rider line-ups in the Australian ProMX, Supercross and Off-Road championships, while KTM will also defend its Finke Desert Race title and Husqvarna is forming a desert effort.

KTM has signed highly-rated teenager and 2019 MXD champion Regan Duffy to lead its return to fielding an in-house motocross team for the first time since 2018, stepping up to MX1 on-board a KTM Factory Racing 450 SX-F.

“I’m really excited to be joining KTM and riding the 450 SX-F next season,” Duffy said. “I’ve been part of the brand’s development path for a lot of my career and feel at home on the bigger bike, so it’s a really good opportunity to step up with a great team around me.”

National champion Daniel Milner’s re-signing for enduro is now official in what is downscaled AORC structure from two riders to one, reverting to 500 EXC-F machinery, while David Walsh will once again compete in the desert after winning Finke last year.

“Being able to sign for my fifth year with KTM in 2021 is really cool,” commented Milner. “I’ve been able to achieve a lot with KTM since joining them and have been really motivated this year, so we will continue that, aim to do the same again next season and deliver some more championships.”

For the first time, Husqvarna’s motocross team will be operated internally as Husqvarna Factory Racing, retaining reigning outdoor champion Todd Waters at the brand between the FC 450 and FE 450 models.

Waters will pull double-duty across ProMX and AORC following a successful enduro debut this season within his own effort, effectively filling the place of Dakar Rally-bound Daniel Sanders off-road.

“To be remaining part of the Husqvarna family into 2021 is a big deal to me, an exciting project and one that I am happy to be involved in,” according to Waters. “We haven’t been able to race nationally since winning the MX1 title in 2019, but it has been a busy year in its own ways.

“Now we are definitely looking forward to getting back on track and working hard to defend the championship. I’m also looking forward to continuing off-road, gaining experience there and hopefully being in contention throughout the season.”

In addition, Dylan Wills will take charge in AUS Supercross riding a FC 450 and marking his rookie campaign in SX1. He’ll also be a privateer riding MX2 outdoors and continues his collaboration with KTM Group. A new-look desert team will feature Callum Norton, who rode Finke with KTM last year.

GasGas Factory Racing will also arrive in Australia with an in-house squad, confirming Aaron Tanti will transition into the premier category equipped with the new MC 450F.

Tanti, who was originally slated to be heading to the US next year, will be joined by Mason Semmens, who moves across from KTM’s factory enduro team to ride a EC 250F in E1.

“I was always aiming to step up to the premier class for next year if I was staying here in Australia, so it’s worked out well to be joining GasGas in the factory team and having this opportunity,” Tanti explained. “It will be a lot of fun being part of the brand and I can’t wait to get on the new MC 450F.”

The eight-rider roster comes as a significant boost to the sport at a national level, outlining the importance of the Australian market for the KTM Group and bolstering opportunities for a selection of the country’s champions and rising talents. GASGAS now has official teams in Europe, the US and Australia.

“As we launch this exciting new brand into the market, it pairs perfectly having Aaron and Mason on board to represent us,” stated Brad Hagi, managing director of KTM Group Oceania. “GasGas is set to be competitive right out of the gates.

“There is also an authentic, grassroots element to the brand that these two young guns represent with their enthusiastic and vibrant personalities. Mason has grown up through the KTM Group ranks and both himself and Aaron are ready to step up and stamp their authority on the Australian racing scene with GasGas.”

Dobson remaining at Serco Yamaha through 2021 campaign

Experienced Queensland combination taking on MX2 aboard YZ250F.

Serco Yamaha has extended its contract with Jesse Dobson through the 2021 season, set to partner Nathan Crawford in the Australian ProMX and Supercross championships.

Dobson switched from Raceline KTM midway through 2020 to join Serco amid the pandemic, which ultimately saw national competition cancelled this year.

Still, Dobson was strong in a series of Queensland-based events, seamlessly adapting to the YZ250F and will now set his sights on carrying that momentum into the new season.

“I said when I moved to the MX2 class at the start of 2020 that I wasn’t going to be there to make up the numbers and that I wanted success and that hasn’t changed,” Dobson commented. “In fact, it has only got stronger as I was able to use 2020 as a season to gain experience back on a 250 and learn how to ride one properly and effectively again.

“I’m stoked to re-sign with Serco Yamaha and have a great bunch of people around me. The bikes are awesome and we have a great list of team sponsors who provide us with the tools to win races and championships.

“It’s been a long wait between national events and I can’t wait to get back behind the gate at round one and feel the excitement of competing at a national again. The MX2 class is always super-competitive and there are plenty of good riders capable of winning rounds, so it’s time to get to work and make the most of the pre-season.”

Serco Yamaha team owner Gavin Eales is delighted with the combination of Dobson and Crawford, two of the most experienced riders in the MX2 ranks and each capable of challenging for the championship.

“In Nathan and Jesse we have two hard working and dedicated athletes who are both focused on winning races,” he said. “Both of them enjoy the training aspect of racing and now bring a lot of experience to the team as they have been on the scene for several years now.

“It’s also a benefit that both live near our team base in Brisbane, which makes life much easier when testing and maintaining bikes. We have also been fortunate to be with Yamaha Motor Australia and continue our relationship into its 21st year and the team will be the show case for the range of high performance products Serco distributes.”

American Supercross plans with Team Solitaire shelved by Tanti

Deal instead in place to remain in Australia for entire 2021 season.

Plans for Aaron Tanti to join Team Solitaire Nuclear Blast Yamaha in 2021 Monster Energy Supercross have been shelved, the Australian opting to remain home amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

It had been announced last month that Tanti would be lining up in 250SX West full-time following a successful stint this year while he was riding for Serco Yamaha locally.

Instead, Tanti will stay put in the Australian ProMX Championship and Australian Supercross Championship, but is yet to confirm what team he will ride for in the new year after departing the factory Serco Yamaha squad.

“Obviously I’d signed to go to the US and everything was meant to happen, but COVID has thrown a spanner in the works and monitoring that, it ended top being too risky and too hard for me to even get there,” Tanti told MotoOnline. “It’s proving to be quite a difficult time in terms of the schedule as well.

“I’m really grateful for the Solitaire team for the opportunity, we’d spoken about it for a long time and it was lined up, so it’s unfortunate that we didn’t end up going ahead with it in the end. I have plans in place for 2021 and look forward to those being announced in the near future.”

Tanti was a standout in both Australian motocross and supercross during 2019, finishing inside the top five of the MX2 and SX2 series. This season was cancelled altogether as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

It was announced with this week’s complete schedule that 250SX West would be instead opening in Houston, which had major effects with the teams that had been preparing for a mid-February commencement in line with the initial outline.

That concern and contractual obligations of the 250SX teams caused organizers to switch back to having 250SX East open the series on 16 January at NRG Stadium, before 250SX West starts from round eight of the season on 20 February in Florida. Both regions will complete nine races each, including the annual Showdown at Salt Lake City’s finals on 1 May.

Gibbs to Honda Racing now official for 2021 outdoors

Both Metcalfe and Webster to remain part of team again next season.

Honda Racing has made the signing of Kirk Gibbs official for the 2021 Australian ProMX Championship, joining the returning Brett Metcalfe and Kyle Webster in the three-rider line-up.

Gibbs transfers across from CDR Yamaha to ride the all-new CRF450R in a motocross-only contract, before Justin Brayton will take charge in Australian Supercross.

“Honda have won many championships and races – after three days of testing with the team I can see why,” 2015 MX1 national champion and current New Zealand title-holder Gibbs commented. “The team is committed and focused and has competitive resources available to them.

“There is no reason we can’t contend for the championship next year. I know its what people expect me to say, but the new Honda 450 is fast – amazingly fast – and after three days of testing we have a great package that will only get better.”

Metcalfe, meanwhile, will spend his fourth season with the Konsky Motorsport-owned organisation, winning last weekend’s AMX MXOpen in commanding fashion on debut aboard Honda’s latest premier class entry.

“I raced the new 450R stock, pulled the holeshot and won both races against other factory riders,” the experienced South Australian said. “I haven’t experienced a bike that fast in standard trim. Following three days of testing I feel we have made some significant gains and I am looking forward to our next test in January.”

After spending time in Europe this year, Webster will return with Honda in the MX2 seat riding the CRF250R, while Emma Milesevic will also be part of the factory effort in the MXW division of ProMX.

“We have strengthened our technical team to manage our expectations,” Yarrive Konsky stated. “Our team is made up of some of the world’s best riders and we believe in them and our motorcycles. The new 450R has already exceeded our expectations and, together with Team HRC in America and Europe, we believe we will prove its capabilities.”

Its been a turbulent period for the Honda Racing team, confirming it has parted ways with longtime title sponsor Penrite – information on replacements still to be revealed – and it was also revealed that Luke Clout would be returning to Yamaha following a single term with Konsky Motorsport in the US.

Konsky will also continue to field an expanded program in Monster Energy Supercross, signing four-time defending Australian champion Brayton to lead its 450SX effort before travelling to Australia later in the year, while its 250SX riders and an incoming naming-rights partner are also to be announced.

Adjustments made upon release of entire 2021 Supercross schedule

Glendale removed and 250SX West to featuring at beginning of series.

The entire 2021 Monster Energy Supercross schedule has been released, including adjustments made in the early portion of the season and venue confirmations throughout the final part of the series.

Rounds seven through nine originally scheduled for Glendale have been removed, instead replaced by a pair of races in Orlando, Florida, at Camping World Stadium for the first time in over a decade.

According to Feld Entertainment, the cause of State Farm Stadium’s absence is as a result of ‘current attendance restrictions and local health mandates’ that make planning in advance difficult, but the aim is to return to the Arizona venue from 2022.

The three previously unannounced events – rounds 13 to 15 – will take place in Atlanta at the Atlanta Motor Speedway as a triple-header, while Salt Lake City will host round 16 in addition to the championship finals. There will be no Triple Crown events in the 2021 schedule.

Next year’s opening seven rounds will now feature as 250SX West events, before 250SX East commences on from round eight. The western region restarts at round 16, before the lone 250SX Showdown will take place at the final round of the year.

Multi-year CDR Yamaha Monster Energy deal confirmed for Clout

Multi-year CDR Yamaha Monster Energy deal confirmed for Clout

Return to Australia official from 2021 alongside Mellross riding YZ450F.

Image: Supplied.

CDR Yamaha Monster Energy has officially announced a multi-year deal with Luke Clout that will see him return home to Australia alongside Hayden Mellross from the 2021 season.

Clout, 26, revealed last weekend that he had split from Penrite Honda Racing, effectively turning his back on a second season in Monster Energy Supercross to rejoin Craig Dack Racing (CDR) following a year’s hiatus.

“The uncertainty of racing in the US, especially for international riders, meant I had to reevaluate my career and what my goals were,” Clout commented. “Racing in the US has always been a goal and dream of mine, but the current climate makes that extremely difficult, so I looked back to Australia and wanted to be on the best team.

“That team is CDR Yamaha and it’s great to be back with the guys and on a bike that I really enjoy riding. The bike hasn’t changed a lot and I’m able to start from an already high base with all my data from the 2019 season.

“It has been a seamless move back into CDR Yamaha and one that was essential for me to help me achieve the new goals I have set for myself. I want to win and even better is the team wants to win just as bad as I do, so there’s no shortcuts taken to championship success. It’s great to be back.”

For Mellross, after signing with CDR Yamaha Monster Energy this year and having the Australian championships cancelled due to COVID-19, he too will make a strong combination alongside Clout and both will contest ProMX and the Australian Supercross Championship. It also confirms the departure of Kirk Gibbs, widely tipped to be joining Konsky Motorsport-run Honda Racing team.

“It’s great to continue on with the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy team and build on a solid base that we formed in 2020,” said Mellross. “While we did next to no racing in 2020, I was able to recover from a pre-season injury and then use the time to personalise the bike and settings for me and I feel right at home on the YZ450F.

“We have the rebranded Australian Motocross Championship in the ProMX, which we hope will lift the profile of motocross, while the Australian Supercross Championship gets better each year and it seems everyone is passionate to get things back up to full power after the interrupted season we have had in 2020.

“Craig [Dack] and the team have put everything in place and I’m at the stage of my career that I feel I can be at my best, so I’m looking forward to getting back on track with the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy team and chasing some championships with them.”

CDR Yamaha Monster Energy owner Craig Dack is excited at the prospect of having both Clout and Mellross lead the team into 2021: “We have been able to secure two mature, experienced and determined racers in the prime of their careers to represent the CDR Yamaha Monster Energy team in 2021.

“Equally exciting is both riders are equally skilled at motocross as well as supercross, so as a team we no longer have to juggle specialist riders throughout a season which gives us great continuity in our program. After the challenges we all faced in 2020, we are looking towards 2021 positively and get back to doing what we passionate about, racing motocross and supercross.”
