The schedule for round one of the 2020 Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) at Phillip Island has been made official, the weekend set to also feature the Mi-Bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) opener on 28 February-1 March.

The three-day Yamaha Finance supported round will see four world championship races take place- three WorldSBK and one WorldSSP – and 12 hit-outs across the four ASBK classes. The ASBK will feature the Australian Superbike, Supersport, Supersport 300 and the young riders of the Oceania Junior Cup.

Track goers will be able to see the WorldSBK riders for the first time in free practice one at 10:30am on Friday, as Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea begins his title defence in a grid that features a number of new riders – Scott Redding’s the standout on the factory Ducati – and a return of the mighty Honda Factory Corporation with its all-new CBR1000RR-R SP.

Alvaro Bautista, who took a clean sweep of victories at Phillip Island in 2019, and Leon Haslam have signed with Honda to spearhead its renewed WorldSBK offensive.

The traditional 22-lap WorldSBK races will be held at 3:00pm on Saturday and Sunday, sandwiching the 10-lap Superpole sprint at midday on Sunday.

Meanwhile, the single WorldSSP race at Phillip Island will be held at 1:15pm on Sunday, with reigning champion Randy Krummenacher now collaborating with MV Agusta after winning the 2019 title on a Yamaha.

Local attention though will focus on Australia’s 16-year-old Oli Bayliss, son of three-time world superbike champion Troy, who has been granted a wild card in WorldSSP for the Phillip Island opener and will campaign the Cube Racing Yamaha YZF-R6. For more information, visit www.worldsbk.com.au.

Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team newcomer Andy Wilksch will make a delayed debut with the team after suffering numerous injuries in a pre-season crash.

The 23-year-old, who’ll contest the E2 category on his return, injured his back and small finger while preparing for the upcoming Australian Off-Road Championship.

The Victorian is hopeful of a return at the second stop of the series for rounds three and four, scheduled on 14-15 March at Dungog in New South Wales.

“It’s a dream come true to be on the Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team and have the support that the factory squad offers,” Wilksch commented. “I’m just excited for the opportunity to learn as much as I can from some top-level people and hopefully I can further my career on the Husqvarna FE 450 – I’ve really adapted well to the bike, especially with how comfortable and nimble it is.

“Unfortunately, I had a practice crash recently and it was enough to put a stable fracture in the lowest vertebra of my spine, but it is just a setback that’s come at an unfortunate time. Plus, I had surgery on my pinky finger as well. I’m fortunate to have such great support through the team, so hopefully I’ll be on-track for rounds three and four of the AORC season.”

The opening round of the Australian Off-Road Championship is due to take place on 22-23 February at Toowoomba in Queensland.

Max Croker is plotting a racing return with Mladin Racing Yoshimura Suzuki at Phillip Island’s Mi-Bike Motorcycle Insurance Australian Superbike Championship (ASBK) opener, the youthful talent coming back from a number of injuries sustained at Wakefield Park in March 2019.

The 21-year-old crashed while testing at the New South Wales’ venue last year, where he was air-lifted to hospital after suffering a badly-broken right hand, wrist and clavicle in two places, as well as lacerations to his small finger that had to be operated on.

Croker returned to riding in the later months of 2019 in preparation for this season, the number 41 most recently participating in the official two-day test at Phillip Island.

“It was a positive two-day test for the team gathering a lot of information,” said Croker. “Although my hand and wrist held us back from track time we still managed to find a good direction with the setup of the bike.

“It was great to be back in the paddock after such a long break and I’m really looking forward to round one in just a few weeks time. We’d like to thank our sponsors and now look forward to the first round of the ASBK in conjunction with WorldSBK at Phillip Island next month.”

The opening round of the ASBK will run in conjunction with the round one of the Motul FIM Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK) on 28 February-1 March.

The Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team will feature a new-look line-up for the 2020 Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC), with reigning AORC champion Daniel Sanders to be partnered by new recruit Andy Wilksch.

Fresh from the most successful year of his career in being crowned the AORC E3 and outright champion along with earning the International Six Days Enduro (ISDE) individual honours, Sanders enters his third season with the factory Husqvarna team.

The 25-year-old Victorian will take to the track aboard the all-new Husqvarna FE 501 in the E3 division once again, where he will wear the number one plate as he defends his crown through 2020.

“It’s a different approach coming into this season with a new format in the team and new people jumping in, so it’s going to be an exciting year and I’m looking forward to it after last year’s results,” Sanders explained.

“I think we’re in a good spot, other than some injuries coming into the season, but I’m feeling good on the new 2020 Husqvarna FE 501 and we’re making steps forward. I’m looking forward to starting the season off and ramping it up during the year.”

Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team newcomer Wilksch enters the official team after proving himself as a regular front-runner in recent seasons, now transitioning to the E2 class for 2020 on-board the Husqvarna FE 450.

The 23-year-old will unfortunately make a delayed debut with the team after suffering an injury setback during the pre-season, injuring his back and small finger while preparing for the upcoming year of competition.

The Husqvarna Enduro Racing Team also introduces Ben Grabham as Team Coordinator for the 2020 season, bringing a wealth of knowledge while working with KTM Group Motorsport Manager Glenn Kearney in the position.

The opening round of the 2020 Australian Off-Road Championship kicks off 22-23 February at Toowoomba in Queensland. Both Sanders and Wilksch will also compete in the Australian Four-Day Enduro (A4DE) and Hattah Desert Race in 2020.

Factory Ducati rolls out 2020 contender for Redding and Davies.

Aruba.it Racing – Ducati has unveiled its 2020 Panigale V4 R that will be piloted by Scott Redding and Chaz Davies in the FIM Motul Superbike World Championship (WorldSBK).

The team introduced itself to guests and media in a presentation at Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari in Imola, Italy, where an updated livery was uncovered for the upcoming season.

“I’m very excited for this new adventure,” said newcomer Redding. “It will be important to get off to a good start, especially on the first circuits that I know very well. We still have to understand where we really are in terms of absolute performance but it is clear that our mission is to start winning as soon as possible.

“I am very satisfied with what we achieved during the tests. I would like to thank the team that has done a great job and has given me a lot of confidence. We all have the same goal and this is a very important motivation. I would like to thank in a special way Aruba.it and Ducati for giving me this opportunity and for welcoming me in an exceptional way.

“What can I promise to the fans? I know that the passion of the Ducatisti is extraordinary and so I’ll give all my energy with just one goal – to bring the title back to Bologna.”

Team regular Davies added: “My expectations are very high. In the second part of the 2019 season our performances and results have improved considerably and, in the last races, we have always fought for the podium.

“The goal is to do even better and I believe that the experience accumulated over the years can help us. We have done a good job during the winter and the feeling is positive even though I have never been looking for the lap-time during the tests.

“I feel much better than I did 12 months ago, both physically and with the feeling with my bike. I want to thank all our fans for their support and I hope to celebrate many victories with them, maybe even in a few months on this same circuit.”

The WorldSBK series kicks off on 28 February-1 March at Phillip Island Grand Prix Circuit in Australia.

JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki makes Tickle signing official

JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki makes Tickle signing official

Comeback slated for Tampa’s seventh round of Supercross season.

JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki has signed Broc Tickle as 450SX fill-in rider for his return to Monster Energy Supercross from the Tampa round this weekend.

With both Joey Savatgy and Fredrik Noren currently injured, 30-year-old Tickle will be back aboard the factory RM-Z450 for the remainder of the 2020 Supercross season.

“I’m really excited for this opportunity with the JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki team,” Tickle commented. “I had a great thing put together, but there were still some missing pieces that on race day can really come into play and JGR has those pieces being the Suzuki effort.

“I’ve had success in the past with Suzuki, so when we got to communicating and putting things together, it just ended up working out and made sense to move forward with the JGR Suzuki program. I’m ready to go racing and looking forward to just getting back in the mix.

“The overall goal is to go out, enjoy it, have fun and do the best I can do. Two years of not racing is a big deal, but I’m up for the challenge and eager to be back on the gate as well as being back to training, riding and doing this at the highest level.”

Tickle has been sidelined following a two-year suspension due to an anti-doping violation that was discovered at the San Diego round of Supercross in 2018 while riding for the Red Bull KTM team.

JGRMX team manager Jeremy Albrecht added: “I’m excited to see Broc back on a Suzuki this weekend in Tampa [after] he has been testing and riding in North Carolina with our team for a couple weeks.

“He will finish out the Supercross season on our team. His speed and fitness are good, so we will see this weekend where he ends up. I’m happy that we have great partners that helped make this happen.”

Michigan native Tickle began his pro career in 2006, earning eight podiums during his 450 career and was also the 2011 250SX West championship winner. He had been training aboard a privateer Husqvarna prior to the opportunity with Suzuki.

Ward still uncertain of making 2020 MX Nationals

Ward still uncertain of making 2020 MX Nationals

Series regular hopeful strong New Zealand campaign leads to an opportunity.

Image: Foremost Media.

Talented Queenslander Caleb Ward is still uncertain if he’ll contest the 2020 MX Nationals, indicating his current focus is making a strong campaign in the New Zealand Motocross Championship with CML KTM.

Ward, who’s raced the last two seasons in the premier class, is evaluating his options for the upcoming motocross series, admitting he could only race selected rounds if he can’t come up with adequate support.

Currently challenging the MX2 category in New Zealand, the former race winner has also suggested he would likely revert to the quarter-litre division in the Australian series.

“At this stage, I’m just racing the New Zealand nationals with CML KTM,” Ward told MotoOnline.com.au. “Coming into this year, I knew I was riding that, but I’ll just see how I go with it. I don’t really have anything in the works for the rest of the year – if I get a good result, it will hopefully get me more support here in whatever I choose to do.

“I haven’t got anything locked in yet, and I’m not sure if I’m going to do all the MX Nationals. It will be good to be in the hunt for the title, so I might do the first couple and see how I go – obviously if I go well, I’ll keep going. If I’m not getting enough support, I don’t think I’ll be able to afford to do them all.”

The opening round of the MX Nationals is scheduled for 4-5 April at Horsham in Victoria.

Understanding bike set-up the focus for Marquez

Repsol Honda rider best amongst the rookies at Sepang.

MotoGP rookie Alex Marquez has established that understanding his bike set-up in various conditions will be the focus in Qatar after gaining valuable track time last week in Malaysia.

The Repsol Honda rider posted the strongest times amongst the rookies, going 13-17-16 on the timehseets throughout the three days at Sepang.

The Spaniard admits his feeling is improving aboard the RC213V, mentioning he left the test in a positive frame of mind.

“The general feeling everyday was better, we were faster and felt better,” Marquez commented. “This is the most important thing. There are only three more days of the pre-season left to be ready for the Qatar GP but we are closer every day – still we need to learn more but every time we ride my knowledge is growing and I’m pleased with everything we’ve achieved.

“For Qatar our aim is to continue to understand the set-up of the bike for myself and in various conditions. We’ve tried a lot this test so I leave happy.”

Marquez will be out on track next on 22 February in Qatar for the final pre-season test ahead of round, scheduled for 8 March at the Losail circuit.
