Red Bull KTM Ajo’s Jorge Martin has been confirmed as one of two people who have tested positive to COVID-19 in the MotoGP paddock ahead of this weekend’s San Marino round of the world championship.
An official press release overnight stated that both cases are asymptomatic and have been placed in isolation, stressing that they had not entered the MotoGP paddock at Misano. The other positive result was returned for a mechanic from a different team.
A statement on Red Bull KTM Ajo confirmed the news of Moto2 contender Martin, stating that he feels well and is quarantined at home. It is unknown what this means for the health of the rest of the paddock or if Martin can return for the second round of the scheduled Misano double-header.

It was a Red Bull KTM double at the MXGP of Faenza as Jorge Prado and Tom Vialle took victory, on a day that saw premier class series leader Jeffrey Herlings injured.
Herlings crashed during practice, taken to a nearby hospital for a precautionary MRI on his head and neck and to also examine some pain to his shoulder. He was conscious and had full feeling across his body.
It was Jeremy Seewer (Monster Energy Yamaha) who earned his first-career MXGP race win in the opening moto, before defending champion Tim Gajser (Team HRC) won the second encounter. It was a 2-2 score for rookie Prado that saw him top the grand prix overall, joined on the podium by Gajser (5-1) and Seewer (1-7).
The world championship is still led by Herlings, now 22 points ahead of Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) – fourth overall at Faenza – and a further four ahead of Gajser.

In MX2, current red plate-holder Vialle stretched his points-lead to 21 points after going 1-1 on Wednesday.
Vialle topped the round from Maxime Renaux (Yamaha SM Action M.C Migliori J1 Racing) and Thomas Kjer Olsen (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna).
Australian Mitch Evans (Team HRC) had his best ride since returning from injury with 9-4 finishes for seventh overall in MXGP. Meanwhile, in MX2, Jed Beaton (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) was fifth via P2 in moto two, plus Team Honda 114 Motorsports teammates Bailey Malkiewicz 19th and Nathan Crawford 21st.
The 2020 MXGP World Championship will continue with its third-straight round at the Italian Faenza circuit this Sunday, 13 September.
Monster Energy Kawasaki rookie Adam Cianciarulo broke through for his first 450MX round win of his career at round five of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship, at RedBud today.
Current championship points’ leader Zach Osborne (Rockstar Husqvarna Factory Racing) enjoyed a day near the front of the field in both races to extend his championship lead, while Rocky Mountain ATV MC KTM racer Blake Baggett took the field by storm to win the second moto.
In the opening 450 race, an ecstatic Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Adam Cianciarulo held off a hard charge from his team-mate and three-time champion Eli Tomac to claim his first-ever 450cc moto win in the opening premier class race.
Cianciarulo led from wire to wire and managed a relatively comfortable 2-3 second lead for most of the race before Tomac piled on late pressure.
Cianciarulo remained composed to take a hard-fought win, while Red Bull KTM’s Marvin Musquin, who rebounded well from a hard pass from Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha) earlier in the race, rounded out the podium.
Osborne spent most of his race in second position, before losing spots to a hard-charging Tomac and Musquin late in the moto.
Barcia finished fifth, while Baggett placed sixth, ahead of Joey Savatgy (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki Factory Racing), Broc Tickle (Monster Energy Yamaha), Chase Sexton (Team Honda HRC), and Christian Craig (Team Honda HRC).
In the second moto, Cianciarulo again enjoyed a perfect jump out of the blocks and took off at the front of the pack, while behind him, Tomac, Barcia and Sexton were caught in a second-turn pile-up that left Tomac restarting from dead last.
Seperate errors in the same corner from Marvin Musquin and Joey Savagty saw Baggett jump from fifth to third behind Cianciarulo and Osborne and he took off after the frontrunners.
While enjoying a four-second lead at the midway point, Cianciaculo ran into the back lapped rider at the bottom of an off-camber turn and went down, allowing Osborne and Baggett both past.
Late in the race Baggett closed in on Osborne and made a clever pass for the lead, then checked out, leading by 13 seconds by the time he got to the checkered flag.
Behind him, Osborne took a content second, Cianciarulo third, Musquin fourth and Tickle fifth. Christian Craig, Tomac, Savatgy, Sexton, and Barca finished out the top 10 positions.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s RJ Hampshire posted consistent 2-3 results to win his second overall of the year at an action-packed round five of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship at RedBud, MI.
Despite a day of mixed fortunes that saw him finish fourth overall, championship leader Jeremy Martin (Geico Honda) has retained the championship lead heading into his home race at Millville.
Despite everything, Martin only gave up three points to his closest rival, Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha).
Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha’s Shane McElrath won a drama-filled opening 250MX moto.
Teammates McElrath and Ty Masterpool spearheaded the pack through the first turn, while Martin and Ferrandis found themselves outside the top 10.
Ferrandis hunted down Martin, but at the midway mark both riders went down after Ferrandis tried to squeeze past entering the left-hander at the bottom of Larocco’s Leap.
The Frenchman remounted quickly, and, despite another high-side crash several laps later, would finish fifth. Martin however, failed to move forward and finished 11th.
Up front, Hampshire jumped to the lead after passing McElrath then capitalising on a mistake from leader Masterpool.
With two laps to go Hampshire also made a mistake and allowed McElrath back past for the lead and eventual win, while Australian teenager Jett Lawrence (Geico Honda) applied the pressure all the way to the checkered flag for a career-best third.
Masterpool and Ferrandis rounded out the top five, while Harrison, Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha), Alex Martin (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki), Stilez Robertson (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Brandon Hartranft (TLD Red Bull KTM) completed the top 10 placings.
Australian Hunter Lawrence (Geico Honda) crossed the line in 12th.
In the second moto, Martin rebounded to claim the win by a comfortable eight seconds.
Off the gate it was again Ty Masterpool who secured his second holeshot of the day, with Martin in second and Hampshire in third.
Ferrandis experienced a horror mid-pack start and had to grind his way through the field on his way to second place and second overall for the day.
A desperate last-lap pass on RJ Hampshire saw him gain a handful of championship points over Martin, while Mitchell Harrison (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) finished fourth and Justin Cooper fifth.
Rounding out the top 10 was Jo Shimoda (Geico Honda), Cameron McAdoo (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), Jett Lawrence, Alex Martin and moto 1 winner Shane McElrath.
Hunter Lawrence crashed into Hartranft early in the race, and had to retreat to the pits so the team could straighten out a bent gear shifter. He eventually finished 26th.
The sixth round of the Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship will be held at Millville MN on September 19.

Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings took victory in the MXGP of Italy on Sunday, the first of three-straight world championship rounds at the Monte Coralli circuit in Faenza.
Herlings swept the round with 1-1 results to extend his lead in the standings, topping Jeremy Seewer (Monster Energy Yamaha) and Antonio Cairoli (Red Bull KTM) in both motos.
Australia’s Mitch Evans continues to make progress, the Team HRC rider going 9-7 for eighth overall and his second top 10 result in a row while recovering from shoulder surgery.
It is Herlings who continues to lead the championship by 60 points over Cairoli, with defending champion Tim Gajser (Team HRC) third after finishing sixth overall on the weekend.

In MX2, it was Maxime Renaux (Yamaha SM Action M.C Migliori J1 Racing) who earned his first-career world championship round win.
Renaux split the moto victories with Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha), however, his 2-1 results were stronger than the 1-3 scorecard of Geerts. Completing the overall podium was Tom Vialle (Red Bull KTM).
After finishing sixth in both motos, Jed Beaton (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) carded fifth overall for the weekend, with countrymen Bailey Malkiewicz (Team Honda 114 Motorsports) 20th and his teammate Nathan Crawford 22nd.
It is still red plate-holder Vialle who leads the championship by a small margin, three points ahead of Geerts, with Renaux third, but 61 points outside of Vialle.
The 2020 MXGP World Championship will continue this Wednesday, 9 September, as the second of three rounds to be held in succession at the Faenza venue.
Rea hunts down Rinaldi for epic Teruel WorldSBK victory

Rea now leads the championship by 36 points from Redding.

Jonathan Rea and the Kawasaki Racing Team were made to earn their race two victory at the Teruel round of the Superbike World Championship after an epic contest with Michael Ruben Rinaldi on the Team GoEleven Ducati.
Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) had regained some confidence earlier in the morning by taking out the Tissot Superpole race ahead of Rea and Rinaldi. In the main 18 lap race Redding was at it again, passing Rea on the opening lap and igniting a fierce battle with Rinaldi and Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC) attached. By the time Bautista fell a few laps in Redding and Rea had turned up the intensity, pushing each other to the limit. As the pair pushed just marginally wide, Rinaldi swooped. It was more pure tenacity that propelled Rinaldi to the lead than a mistake on the part of Rea or Redding, the GoEleven V4 Ducati cutting moves through his much more seasoned competitors.
The trio pushed a hot pace on the soft compound Pirelli SCX tyres, with Rinaldi and Rea slightly dropping Redding and putting him under pressure to keep in touch. As Rea stalked Rinaldi the gap to Redding grew to one second, with the Kawasaki of Rea looking like he was toying with Rinaldi and biding his time. Rea would push and Rinaldi would defend – and when Rea finally struck, it showed just how on the edge the Kawasaki rider had been. There was a huge moment at turn seven for Rea, then a lap later he made the pass stick. With both feet off the pegs and the Ninja fully out of shape, Rea needed another massive save tipping into turn one with the rear in the air, protesting under braking force.
While the leaders scrapped, Redding was simply unable to respond but was able to salvage the final podium spot. After Redding’s Aruba.it teammate Chaz Davies had crashed out, Leon Haslam (Team HRC) stepped up for his best result this season while Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) came home in fifth. Dutchman Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Official Team) was a further five seconds behind in fifth, closely followed by his teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Loris Baz (Ten Kate Racing Yamaha) was another five seconds behind Razgatlioglu with GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior Team duo Federico Caricasulo and Garrett Gerloff rounding out the top ten.

World Supersport was once again taken out by Andrea Locatelli (Bardahl Evans Bros. World Supersport Team) but not without significant drama. In the opening stages Locatelli had fallen to third place with Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha) and Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) out front. On lap four the pair collided at turn one, forcing both out of the race with Cluzel later diagnosed with fractures to his left tibia and fibula. Locatelli went on to win by over six seconds with Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) second and Isaac Viñales (Kallio Racing) completing the podium. Australian Lachlan Epis (MPM Routz Racing Team) bought his Yamaha home for 18th place.
The Supersport 300 World Championship class was won by Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki Motoport) with an unusual gap of over five seconds. Buis has claimed three race wins in four races while teammate Scott Deroue scored another podium finish. Turkish rider Bahattin Sofuoglu (Biblion Motoxracing Yamaha WorldSSP300) completed the podium. Australian Tom Edwards (Kawasaki ParkinGo Team) rode home to 25th place while compatriot Tom Bramich (Carl Cox-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) crashed out.
Rinaldi breaks through in Teruel for stunning maiden victory

Locatelli makes it eight from eight in WorldSSPT.

Michael Ruben Rinaldi and Team GoEleven have broken through for a controlled Motul Superbike World Championship maiden victory in race one of the Teruel Round at MotorLand Aragon. Rinaldi converted his dominant practice form to a race result, passing Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea at the end of the opening lap to take the flag by almost six seconds.
“It’s unbelievable! Now we are here! I couldn’t hope for a better race and I will enjoy this,” an emotional Rinaldi commented in parc ferme after the race. After starting from second on the grid, one of the key elements of Rinaldi’s victory was his selection and management of the softer Pirelli SCX rear tyre. Rea took the less risky option of the harder SC0 and admitted he may try a different strategy tomorrow. “When I saw Michael and his pace, with the SCX tyre, the rhythm he could do was incredible. Maybe tomorrow we could do a more aggressive strategy but super happy to pick up 20 points. I feel like we got the best out of the bike today.”
The 20 points Rea picked up for second was made even more important after Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) crashed on lap seven while under pressure from Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC). An inconsolable Redding was shown later in the pit garage, aware the mistake gifted Rea a 30 point championship lead. Teammate Chaz Davies rode a solid race to pick up the final podium spot a further five seconds back after starting from seventh on the grid.
Bautista also succumbed to pressure, crashing out on lap 14 after a brief battle with Davies. Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Official Team) finished in fourth place, five seconds behind Davies and five seconds ahead of his teammate Toprak Razgatlioglu.
After several costly mistakes, an unwell Alex Lowes (Kawasaki Racing Team WorldSBK) prevailed in a battle for sixth to tenth. Leon Haslam (Team HRC) was close behind in seventh while Eugene Laverty (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) claimed his best result of the season with eighth place. Federico Caricasulo (GRT Yamaha WorldSBK Junior Team) finished ninth ahead of a fading Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team), who had started from fourth.

In World Supersport it seems nothing can halt the momentum of Andrea Locatelli and the Bardahl Evans Bros. World Supersport Team after another convincing six second victory. “I can push every lap, this is so good because with the hot conditions we are very strong,” commented Locatelli after the race. Italian Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse) finished second after a strong early battle with Jules Cluzel (GMT94 Yamaha). Cluzel completed the podium with Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Pucetti Racing) fourth. That put three different manufacturers in the top four and leaves Locatelli 54 points clear in the championship with one race left to run at Aragon. Australian Lachlan Epis (MPM Routz Racing Team) showed potential but endured another frustrating race after being forced to retire 13 laps in.
The Supersport 300 World Championship race was as thrilling as ever after Victor Rodriguez Nunez (2R Racing) claimed a remarkable victory after coming through the Last Chance Race and starting from 30th place of the 36-strong grid. The top six were separated by one second, with Nunez finishing just 0.042s in front of Turkish rider Bahattin Sofuoglu (Biblion Motoxracing Yamaha WorldSSP300). Dutchman Jeffrey Buis (MTM Kawasaki Motoport) took the final podium spot and now has a championship lead of six points to fourth placed Scott Deroue (MTM Kawasaki Motoport). Australian Tom Edwards (Kawasaki ParkinGo Team) finished in 18th position but was optimistic for race two, saying on Facebook, “Qualifying P20 made it difficult for race one, also a crash in front of me in the first lap put me back in P28. I tried my best to fight my way back up but having front end grip issues made it difficult to overtake, but ended up P18. We have some big improvements to make for tomorrow’s race and I think without any first lap drama it should all be okay.” Fellow Australian Tom Bramich finished an encouraging 23rd after finally cracking through qualifying, avoiding the Last Chance Race.

Action resumed for the second leg of the MotorLand Aragon double header where Michael Rubin Rinaldi and his Team GoEleven Ducati topped the combined results after free practice. Rinaldi’s morning time of 1m49.840s was enough to pip Kawasaki Racing Team’s Jonathan Rea by the narrowest of margins, a tiny 0.001 second.
While the challenge for Rinaldi will be to capture strong race pace, Rea’s teammate Alex Lowes improved his Friday result and was a half a second back in P3. Tom Sykes (BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team) finished the day in fourth place and will be looking to improve on a best race result of 12th from race two last weekend.
After a 6-7-8 result last weekend, Toprak Razgatlioglu (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Official Team) finished the day in fifth place while Chaz Davies (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) was the second fastest Ducati in sixth. Last weekends podium finisher in race two, Alvaro Bautista (Team HRC), was in seventh place while Michael van der Mark (Pata Yamaha WorldSBK Official Team) sat eighth. Last weeks race one winner Scott Redding (Aruba.it Racing – Ducati) had the ninth fastest time overall with Leon Haslam (Team HRC) completing the top ten.

In World Supersport, Andrea Locatelli (Bardahl Evan Bros. WorldSSP Team) continued his incredible run of results by once again topping the timesheets by over half a second to Italian Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta Reparto Corse). Lucas Mahias (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) was third and the fastest Kawasaki on the grid. Lone Australian in the field Lachlan Epis (MPM Routz Racing Team) set his fastest time in the morning session and sits 22nd on the timesheets.
In World Supersport 300 action Scott Deroue (MTM Kawasaki Motoport) topped the combined group A and B results, recording a best lap of 2m05.899s. He was almost half a second clear of Inigo Iglesias Bravo (Scuderia Maranga Racing) in second place with Thomas Brianti (Prodina Ircos Team WorldSSP300) third. In good news for Australia, Tom Edwards (Kawasaki ParkinGO Team) was fourth, ahead of former champion Ana Carrasco (Kawasaki Provec WorldSSP300). Fellow Australian Tom Bramich (Carl Cox-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki) sits 30th and on track on earn a spot in the main race.

Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship leader Zach Osborne has extended his 450MX advantage after claiming a dominant clean-sweep at RedBud 1 on Friday.
Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Osborne led from start to finish in a pivotal first 450MX moto, getting out front early and maintaining a slim advantage at the front.
Osborne topped Marvin Musquin (Red Bull KTM) by 1.912s, with rookie Chase Sexton (Team Honda HRC) earning a top three result in P3.
Defending champion Eli Tomac (Monster Energy Kawasaki) recovered from ninth on lap one to fourth ahead of teammate Adam Cianciarulo, who went down while in second on the opening lap.
Finishing seventh was Justin Barcia (Monster Energy Yamaha), moving by Christian Craig (Team Honda HRC) – who was in podium position early – on the final lap, while Broc Tickle (Monster Energy Yamaha), Joey Savatgy (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki) and Blake Baggett (Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM WPS) were the top 10.
There was disappointment for Fredrik Noren, the factory Suzuki rider starting inside the top five, but forced out with a bike problem soon afterwards.
Osborne was unstoppable this afternoon in the first of two-straight rounds at RedBud, sprinting toictory in the second outing for what was his first-career 450MX sweep.
Behind him, Barcia was 2.647s in arrears as he got the better of Cianciarulo for position, with Sexton fourth and Tomac losing ground in fifth. Scoring strong results in positions six through 10th was Musquin, top qualifier Baggett, Craig, Tickle and Noren.
Overall for the round, Osborne made it three wins from four to date in 2020, joined on the podium by Sexton and Barcia.
Osborne leads the championship by 26 points from Barcia, which will reach the halfway point on Monday, 7 September, with round five of the season at RedBud 2.

Geico Honda’s Jeremy Martin has taken the 250MX red plates in the 2020 Lucas Oil Pro Motocross Championship following a clean-sweep at RedBud 1.
The opening moto of 250MX was won by Martin as he collected his second in a row, following on from Ironman a week ago, working his way into the lead on lap 10.
He would go on to win by 4.843s over RJ Hampshire (Rockstar Energy Husqvarna) and Ty Masterpool (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha), who led more than half of the moto after pulling the holeshot.
Masterpool was able to keep Jett Lawrence (Geico Honda) at bay, with Cameron McAdoo (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki) filling the top five.
Positions six through 10 included Alex Martin (JGRMX Yoshimura Suzuki), Dylan Ferrandis (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha), Shane McElrath (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha), Justin Cooper (Monster Energy Star Racing Yamaha) and the returning Darian Sanayei (Monster Energy Pro Circuit Kawasaki), who had been inside the top three early.
Ferrandis went down on the opening lap, again forced into damage limitation mode by charging back up the order to seventh at the conclusion of the moto.
Making it a 1-1 for his second round win in a row, Martin increased the pressure on Ferrandis in the race for this championship by taking the red plates in the process. Martin stalked McElrath through the opening portion of the race before striking just prior to halfway and then going on to win by 4.815s, with Ferrandis charging to third.
The latter climbed through the order to steal a podium from a gritty Alex Martin on the final lap, followed by Hampshire, Cooper, McAdoo, Jett Lawrence, Brandon Hartranft (TLD Red Bull KTM) and Hunter Lawrence (Geico Honda) in a season-best result.
Overall, Jeremy Martin stood atop the podium from Hampshire and McElrath, with Martin now leading the standings by 12 points ahead of Ferrandis – P4 today – entering round five of the 2020 championship at RedBud 2 on Monday, 7 September.

Decision made to cancel 2020 AUS Supercross championship

Clarity arrives from series organisers following COVID-19 delays.
Image: Foremost Media.
AUS SX Holdings has confirmed that the 2020 Australian Supercross Championship has been cancelled as a result of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In a decision made by series organisers and Motorcycling Australia (MA), the focus has now been shifted to next year due to uncertainty surrounding travel and crowds.
“It’s really disappointing for us and all involved with Supercross in Australia to have to cancel this year’s series,” said AUS SX Holdings co-founder Adam Bailey.
“We wanted to hold out for as long as we could, to try and get some semblance of Supercross competition up and running for this year and actually things were looking great for a fantastic 2020 series only a few weeks ago. With the ever-changing situation we’re up against with COVID, however, evolving so rapidly recently, we have no choice but to cancel this year’s series.
“We just don’t have 100 percent certainty that we can safely and successfully deliver a calibre of a series that we expect of ourselves and that fans and competitors deserve.
“Supercross has been on a massive upward trend and we’re working tirelessly to ensure that this growth pattern continues. We are striving to create a sustainable, globally recognised platform for our Australian talent to showcase their skills and are committed to delivering this in 2021 and beyond.”
Motorcycling Australia (MA) CEO Peter Doyle added: “It’s unfortunately a similar picture many sports face due the border closures, spectator restrictions and differing legislation in each state around COVID-19.
“The time, effort and large financial input required to run Supercross in this environment is a huge gamble and we thank and support AUS SX Holdings for their efforts and decision to cancel. Everyone can now focus on 2021 when hopefully this pandemic is behind us.”
Supercross organisers have been largely silent on the matter throughout 2020, still yet to specifically address the future of the AUS-X Open Melbourne or S-X Open Auckland, which both formed part of the Australian and Oceania series last season.
