Italian teenager Mattia Guadagnini has signed with Red Bull KTM to join world champion Tom Vialle and Rene Hofer in an expanded three-rider MX2 roster for 2021.

Guadagnini, 18, will be part of the Claudio de Carli-operated KTM program, which also has MXGP contenders Tony Cairoli and Jorge Prado.

“For me this is a dream come true to join the KTM family, especially the de Carli team as I grew up watching Tony’s races,” Guadagnini said. “I always said that one day I want to be there also and fight in the world championship, so the day has come and I’m so happy.

“I like how they work as a big family, spending lots of time together. Also having Tony and Jorge as direct teammates will be awesome – I can learn a lot and I think I have all I need to work on my goals for the future!”

De Carli commented: “Mattia is one of the most interesting young riders in international motocross, he has already reached important milestones and he must continue in his growth to fight with the best riders in the world championship.

“We are happy to have him in our team and, as always, we will try to give him the best from a technical and training point of view.

“He gives me the impression of a boy with solid principles and great motivation and I want him to face this first year with us by working with his teammates, without pressure and with the aim of improving in every aspect in his first full season of MX2.”

Guadagnini is the 2020 EMX250 championship runner-up after winning nine motos in his first season on a 250cc four-stroke as part of the Maddii Racing Husqvarna team. He also won the EMX125 and 125cc Junior World Championship in 2019.

The inaugural 2021 ProMX Australian Motocross Championship calendar has been uncovered by Motorcycling Australia (MA), set to span eight rounds across seven locations.

Gillman in South Australia will host round three on 30 May, with Maitland, NSW, next on 27 June to complete the first half of the season, followed by Wodonga, VIC, on 25 July.

Consecutive weekends will conclude the championship in Queensland at a venue to be confirmed on 9 August, before the traditional Coolum finals will take place on the Sunshine Coast as a double-header between 14-15 August.

“Having taken over the running of the championship only a few months ago and, after significant work by the ProMX Management Team, we are very excited to release the 2021 ProMX championship calendar in what we believe will be a fantastic year for motocross in Australia,” said MA CEO Peter Doyle.

“There was significant interest from over 30 clubs to host the 2021 ProMX championship rounds and we thank them for their overwhelming support.

“Like the ProMX teams and fans, we can’t wait to get back and get the season under way to see the fierce action on track. Our goal for 2021 is to build a strong foundation in our first year of ProMX with long term plans to broaden the championship and its audience.”

Queensland Moto Park (QMP) has constantly been linked to the penultimate round, as have Gympie and Mackay in recent weeks, however, no formal indication has been given at this point.

The Australian Off-Road Championship (AORC) calendar also curiously has a TBA date in Queensland during that same week on the Friday and Saturday, potentially setting up a multi-discipline type of event into the nationals on Sunday.

It also remains unclear whether or not the newly-introduced MX3 category that is replacing the former MXD division will feature at all rounds or what the extent of inclusion of the support categories including the Womens and Veterans will be from next year.

Contract between Webb and KTM extended through 2022

Former Supercross champion staying put for a further two years.

Cooper Webb and Red Bull KTM have extended their contract for a further two years through the 2022 season, remaining on-board the factory 450 SX-F in Monster Energy Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross.

The 2019 450SX champion’s renewed deal was revealed during today’s KTM Factory Racing team intro at the brand’s Temecula headquarters, joining Marvin Musquin, whose deal was announced mid-last year.

“Cooper has a lot of experience coming into 2021 and we are very excited to see how things progress now that he has been with us for two years,” commented Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team manager Ian Harrison.

“Along with his mechanic Carlos Rivera, I feel we are all at a point where we understand each other’s strengths and that leads to better bike set-up and race day changes. Cooper also has a clean bill of health, so we are confident that he will be ready to keep the momentum rolling into 2021.”

Webb finished second in this year’s Supercross championship standings with four main event wins to his credit, but he pulled out of 450MX following Loretta Lynn’s with an aggravated back injury that has since recovered. The Red Bull KTM outfit will expand to three riders in 2021, with Max Vohland riding the 250 class alongside Webb and Musquin.

Savatgy drafted into Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM team

Savatgy drafted into Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM team

Deal made official alongside Bogle following shock departure of Baggett.

Image: Supplied.

Rocky Mountain ATV/MC KTM has drafted in Joey Savatgy alongside the returning Justin Bogle for 2021 following the shock departure of team mainstay Blake Baggett.

Savatgy, 26, rode for JGRMX Suzuki this season and had previously tested with MotoConcepts during the off-season, but has found a home on-board the factory-supported KTM team.

Recognized as one of the most capable new talents in the premier class, Savatgy starred with Monster Energy Kawasaki as a rookie in 2019 – finishing eighth in 450SX – before making way for Adam Cianciarulo, leading to a single term with JGR prior to its closure.

A major heel injury sustained in Australia’s Monster Energy AUS-X Open event last November saw him sidelined through the entire Monster Energy Supercross season, then returning for Lucas Oil Pro Motocross and finishing 11th overall.

Meanwhile, the absence of Baggett from today’s KTM introduction is a curious one, understood to have been contracted for another season, but recently opting not to continue with the organisation. It’s unclear if he will race-on next year.

Red Bull KTM takes 250 program in-house with Vohland

Max Vohland will transition into the professional ranks with Red Bull KTM in 2021, the factory team expanding to have three riders in-house as it makes a return to the 250 class.

A longtime rider within KTM’s Orange Brigade amateur motocross program, Vohland will line-up alongside 450 duo Cooper Webb and Marvin Musquin within the official team.

The 17-year-old is a five-time Loretta Lynn’s champion and was most recently crowned 2019 AMA Youth Rider of the Year. Vohland will debut in Monster Energy Supercross and Lucas Oil Pro Motocross.

“Max has had a long and successful journey as an amateur with KTM and we are happy to be involved in the start of his young career,” explained Red Bull KTM team manager Ian Harrison. “I met him years ago and have seen his progress through the amateur ranks.

“He is young but has a lot of potential. Time will tell how he manages the ups and downs of professional racing and we will be here to help support him in every way we can. Our goal is to have Max and KTM up front.”

KTM last operated a 250 SX-F within the factory organisation in 2015 when it had Musquin and Justin Hill on the team. Troy Lee Designs had run the 250 program since, until becoming the official GasGas team ahead of the 2021 season.

Californian native Wageman will continue with Team Solitaire Nuclear Blast Yamaha next season, the 21-year-old earning a best finish of 12th at Glendale and going on to finish 17th overall in the championship.

“2020 was a crazy year for not only me and the team, but for the whole industry,” Wageman reflected. “I think we made steps toward where we all want to be, but we have more to give. I also think it’s important to recognize both Feld and MX Sports for doing an amazing job to keep us racing – I couldn’t be more stoked to get behind that gate in 2021.”

Team manager Ryan Clark added: “I could not be more pleased with our riders, staff and technicians entering the 2021 season. Robbie has grown a lot in 2020 and I am excited to watch him realize his goals and turn some heads. I have been watching Aaron develop in Australia since 2018 and, after several impressive rides in 2020, we knew that he would make a great addition to the Team Solitaire program.”
