2022 SWM 125cc Line-Up Gets ABS and Euro5 Compliant Engines

Italian manufacturer SWM has made some notable tweaks to the 125cc models in its line-up for 2022. These include the addition of ABS, in place of the combined braking system (CBS) on the existing models, and an update to the engine that makes it Euro5-compliant.

The A1 licensing regulations in Europe mandate that motorcycles in this segment must come equipped with either ABS or CBS. The latter is a more affordable technology, and it’s more common in entry-level motorcycles that don’t make a lot of power. A CBS system essentially partially triggers the front brake when the rear brake is used. However, unlike ABS, it doesn’t prevent the wheel from locking under hard braking. ABS is the safer technology, and SWM has decided to kit out their beginner-level supermoto, enduro, and scrambler models with the tech.

Apart from the update to the brakes, the bikes have also received a Euro5-compliant engine. RideApart reports that the SWM SM 125 R supermoto continues to employ a 125cc, single-cylinder engine with a peak power output of 15hp. For a more premium look and feel, it’s also received some minor cosmetic updates, like an LED headlight, digital cluster, and USB charger.

Other models like the street-naked SWM Varez 125, retro-styled Ace of Spades, and Gran Milano Outlaw have also received similar updates. The two retro models are primarily the same motorcycle with different tire options – the Ace gets dual-sport tires, while the Gran Milano gets street tires.

Prices for SWM’s 125cc start at €4,049 ($4,696) for the Ace of Spades and Gran Milano Outlaw. The Varez 125 will cost you a little more at €4,249 ($4,928), while the SM 125 R tops the line with a price tag of €4,549 ($5,276).

Near-Production 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 Seen Testing

Triumph seems to have had a rather busy September, teasing us with two updates for the Tiger line that are set to unveil very soon. Just a few days ago, the British manufacturer teased the arrival of the new Tiger Sport 660, which is set to happen later this week on October 5. A couple of days later, the team at RideApart got their hands on some images of a prototype of the upcoming Tiger 1200, and it looks very nearly ready for production.

The images are of a test mule that isn’t clad in camouflage, giving us a fair idea of what the adventure motorcycle will look like. RideApart also reports that the new Triumph Tiger 1200 will be powered by essentially the same 1,160cc inline-triple on the 2021 Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RS. However, considering the Tiger’s drastically different nature, it’s likely that it will be tuned to aid its off-road intentions better. On the Speed Triple RS, this engine makes a whopping 178hp – we can all agree that’s more than required for an ADV – and the Tiger is expected to make much less.

The 2022 Triumph Tiger 1200 will also feature the same T-Plane crankshaft from the Tiger 900, translating to better bottom-end performance. We can also see the addition of a redesigned tubular frame and a dual-sided swingarm in place of the single-sided unit that the previous generation featured. Triumph has also emphasized that the Tiger 1200 will weigh notably less than the model it’s replacing, and we’re keen to see how it’s managed this.

As with every Triumph Tiger, we expect to see multiple variants of the Tiger 1200. With the Tiger 900, the manufacturer ditched their somewhat complex naming structure and simplified it to just GT and Rally – one road-biased and the other with more off-road-ready hardware. We could see it do the same with the Tiger 1200, as well.

Triumph is tight-lipped on when the new Tiger 1200 will go on sale, but RideApart reports that we could see it debut sometime in November, around EICMA.

2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000, GSX-S1000GT Prices Revealed

Just last week, Suzuki announced the addition of a new sport-tourer, the GSX-S1000GT, to its line-up. However, the Japanese manufacturer didn’t reveal a rather crucial bit of information – its price in the United States. Asphalt and Rubber have now reported on the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000 pricing, along with that of the recently launched 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000.

Suzuki has revealed that the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000 is priced at $11,299, while the 2022 Suzuki GSX-S1000GT and GSX-S1000GT+ will set you back $13,149 and $13,799, respectively. The additional $650 that you pay for the GT+ trim will get you hard saddlebags. The prices above are “introductory,” so a minor increase is expected over the next few weeks.

The way they’re currently priced, the GSX-S1000 and Suzuki GSX-S1000GT models are aggressively priced and act as excellent options for someone looking at a new liter-class street-naked or sport-tourer. A&R points out that the Suzuki GSX-S1000 is more affordable than its most direct rivals – the Honda CB1000R, priced at $12,999, and the Yamaha MT-10 that also wears a $12,999 price tag.

The Suzuki GSX-S1000GT, meanwhile, takes on the likes of the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT, which costs over $1,000 more than the Suzuki. This segment also houses the Ninja 1000 SX, which offers a more comprehensive electronics package, and undercuts the GT+ trim by about $300. On the flip side, the Suzuki offers 10hp more than the Ninja’s 140hp and weighs marginally less – 16lbs less than the 514lbs Kawasaki.

We’re certainly excited about the arrival of both these models, and they should spice things up in their segments when they arrive at dealerships across the U.S.
