MX2 World Championship contender Mitch Evans says the weekend’s MXGP of France at Saint Jean d’Angely felt like a home GP, the nation in which the Australian is based along with the Team Honda 114 Motorsports outfit.

The Queenslander put on another strong display of riding just one week after earning his second podium of the season, charging to a respectable 7-4 scorecard.

Finishing shy of the podium in fourth overall, the performance sees Evans’ surge of momentum continue after completing the last three rounds with top five results.

“I had a great weekend here in France,” Evans stated. “I felt really good in timed practice and qualified in third, which is the best this year – and then finished fourth in the qualifying race. I struggled with tyre spin on the start-gate in race one, so I had to come from a long way back.

“I made my way up to seventh in the first moto, but made a lot of passes on the first lap in race two. I tried to get up to third, but couldn’t get it done, so had to settle for fourth. It felt great to be on a French team in France. Even some of the crowd were cheering for me. It felt like a home GP and that was so cool.

“I’m happy with fourth overall. It was a good weekend – my speed is good and I’m happy with my riding and looking forward to Russia.”

Now ranked fifth in the championship standings, Evans will return to action at round eight of the MX2 World Championship on 9 June at Orlyonok in Russia.
