WorldSBK joins the Portuguese and wider motorsport community in paying tribute to the CEO of the Autodromo Internacional do Algarve (AIA), Paulo Pinheiro, who has sadly passed away.

First a mechanical engineer by trade, Pinheiro became the driving force behind the creation of the AIA near his hometown of Portimão. When it opened and first hosted WorldSBK in 2008, it instantly joined the pantheon of greats as one of the most spectacular racetracks in the world.

Under Pinheiro’s leadership, the AIA quickly became a beloved fixture in the WorldSBK calendar. The iconic “rollercoaster” track layout provided thrilling races and unforgettable moments, cementing its place as a favourite among riders and fans alike.
