During the recent Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Harley-Davidson revealed its new Apex factory custom paint, which will be an option for nine different touring models. This paint option will be available globally for the rest of the 2022 model ordering window.
“Apex factory custom paint gives riders the opportunity to express the thrill of speed and competition on the bodywork of their bagger,” said Harley-Davidson VP of Design and Creative Director, Motorcycles Brad Richards, quoted in a company release. “This paint scheme communicates velocity and forward momentum with lines and colors inspired by Harley-Davidson competition motorcycles.”
The XR-750 flat-track bike served as a primary inspiration for the new colorway, and its influence can be seen in the graphic design along the tank, fairings, and fenders.
Designers began with a base of Vivid Black, accenting it with stripes of Jet Fire Orange, the same color used on the XR-750 racebikes. Panels feature drop shadows and a subtle Bar & Shield pattern throughout. Each Apex factory custom paint job is applied in-house at the Harley-Davidson York Vehicle Assembly and Harley-Davidson’s Tomahawk Operations center.
The models that qualify for Apex custom paint include:
Road King Special
Street Glide Special (in chrome and black trim)
Ultra Limited (in chrome and black trim)
