SAG Racing Team’s Remy Gardner has drawn mixed feelings from his fourth place finish at Silvestone’s 12th round of the 2019 Moto2 World Championship on Sunday, the Australian narrowly missing out on the podium.

Starting from the second row, Gardner latched onto the lead group and remained with it throughout the 18-lap encounter, holding down a podium position before being overtaken with two corners to go, forcing him to accept P4 – crossing the line just 0.738s off the leader.

“I was looking for a bit more in qualifying, but I was still happy,” Gardner explained. “I just missed the front row, felt good on the bike, had a good rhythm and knew we could put in a strong showing when the race came.

“The race itself was both positive and disappointing at the same time. I fought back after losing the group, it was a big gap, but I managed to arrive at the front group late in the race. We had the pace, but Brad pipped me with two corners to go. Nevertheless, it was a good race, a big confidence boost and I’m already looking forward to Misano.”

Gardner is now ranked 12th in the championship standings as the series heads to Misano on 13-15 September.
