Australian leads ASB1000 standings with healthy advantage.
A successful campaign at China’s fifth round of the 2019 Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) has boosted Broc Parkes’ bid for an ASB1000 title, the Australian now leading the series with a healthy 35-point advantage.
The Yamaha Racing Team ASEAN rider recorded a strong 4-1 scorecard at the Zhuhai International Racing Circuit, the Endurance World Championship regular putting on an impressive display in the final outing to capture victory.
“We changed the settings for the morning warm-up,” Parkes explained. “That helped a lot, so I could attack more consistently. In the race I got into third behind Azlan Shah and there was a small gap to Zaidi in the lead, then I passed Azlan Shah on lap three.
“Zaidi made a mistake and that let me get into the lead, right around the time I needed to. After that I just had to manage my race. The key for my race this time was being in a good position after the first lap. This win is going to help out my championship chances a lot.”
Just two rounds remain in the ARRC, with the next stop scheduled on 19-22 September at Sepang International Circuit in Malaysia.
