Foggia fastest in mixed conditions, Guevara top overall

No improvements were made on a drying track in Valencia; Kelso claims P2 in the afternoon stint

Izan Guevara (Valresa GASGAS Aspar Team) ended Day 1 of the Gran Premio Motul de la Comunitat Valenciana at the summit thanks to his pace in a dry FP1, with Moto3™ FP2 run on a drying track. Darryn Binder (Petronas Sprinta Racing) and Andrea Migno (Rivacold Snipers Team) completed the top three, with Dennis Foggia (Leopard Racing) topping the times in FP2.

No improvements in FP2

The rain started to fall in Valencia just as Moto3™ FP1 ended, but the track hadn’t fully dried out by the time the lightweight class came back out for their afternoon session. A mostly quiet outing played out, but plenty of faster times were slotted in before the chequered flag. None, though, anywhere near troubling Guevera’s 1:39.561 in FP1 – Foggia’s best time was a 1:41.524.

Who finished in the top 10?

Behind the leading trio came Filip Salač (CarXpert PrüstelGP) and 2021 World Champion Pedro Acosta (Red Bull KTM Ajo) on the combined times, with Yuki Kunii (Honda Team Asia) enjoying his morning stint in P6. Romano Fenati (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team), Ayumu Sasaki (Red Bull KTM Tech3), Sergio Garcia (Valresa GASGAS Aspar Team) and John McPhee (Petronas Sprinta Racing) are the remaining fastest 10 riders on Day 1, but expect that to change on Saturday morning.

Adrian Fernandez (Sterilgarda Max Racing Team) headed to the medical centre after a crash in FP2, the Spanish rookie was thankfully later declared fit.

That is, of course, if the weather plays ball. Rain was unexpected on Friday morning, the riders will be hoping it stays away for FP3. Tune into Moto3™ FP3 at 09:00 local time (GMT+1) to see who can grab an automatic Q2 place in the top 14.
