Fourth place was reigning World Champion Joan Mir (Team Suzuki Ecstar), who looked like he had found something in Warm Up, as did Franco Morbidelli (Petronas Yamaha SRT). Starting down in 21st on the grid, Maverick Viñales (Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP) was sixth, ahead of Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati Lenovo Team), whilst King of the Sachsenring Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team was eighth. Jorge Martin (Pramac Racing) was ninth ahead of Aleix Espargaro (Aprilia Racing Gresini Team), who had a fast Turn 5 crash before returning to the circuit. Pole-sitter Johann Zarco (Pramac Racing) was only 16th, whilst fourth on the grid Jack Miller (Ducati Lenovo Team) was 20th.
