Experts feared the Rally would be a “superspreader event,” according to this CNN report, but 70 reported coronavirus cases so far out of a reported 460,000 vehicles-worth of attendees doesn’t seem too super. The last official day of the rally was ten days ago, Sunday, August 16. On the other hand, if you were paying attention you may have noticed how quickly one Covid case became 5.8 million in the United States in about five months. Sturgis neatly coincided with a reported uptick in infections across rural parts of the Midwest.
“Sixty-one percent of counties in the US have been visited by someone who was at Sturgis, Camber Systems, which collects and analyzes cell phone activity for health researchers, told CNN.”
