In keeping with the theme of Suzuki’s recent announcements, the 2023 GSX-S1000 gets only a color update for the coming year. It will be available in either Metallic Triton Blue or Glass Sparkle Black. The bike also gets a slight tweak to the instrument panel as well, with background lighting changing from blue to bright white to make it easier to see all the details. A brand-new GSX-S1000 will cost $11,499, up $200 from the 2022 edition.
While the lack of updates to the GSX-R1000R and GSX-R1000 for 2023 extends a long string of years since the last major overhaul, the GSX-S1000 is nice and fresh. The bike got significant attention for 2022, with a new Euro 5–compliant engine, ride-by-wire system, more traction control modes, increased fuel capacity along with a quickshifter and slip/assist clutch. The engine revisions themselves included new camshafts, throttle bodies, airbox, and valve springs to enhance low-end torque.
The changes marked the first major update since the model launched back in 2015.
Our first ride on the revamped 2022 model confirmed the quality of the upgrades, which gave us a bike with great acceleration throughout the rev range. Small tweaks to the chassis made the machine feel even more at home on track, and the new quickshifter proved its merit straight away. One of our only gripes about the bike had to do with how difficult it was to see information on the display, so here’s to hoping that the change to a white background will do the trick.
Aesthetic improvements were also well-received, and the sleek new bodywork introduced last year carries on into 2023.
