Know what’s more fun than any kid’s video game? A 50cc dirt bike like the 2023 Suzuki DR-Z50. The only button kids will need to mash is the electric starter.

The little DR-Z’s 49cc four-stroke single-cylinder engine produces beginner-friendly power that can be kept in check via the adjustable throttle limiter. This gives parents control to steadily increase power available, so the bike won’t get out from underneath their tyke. With a three-speed transmission and automatic clutch, kids won’t have to worry about feathering the clutch lever yet; all they have to do is toe a shift lever. This is a great starting point for understanding the basic mechanics of the machine. The IC engine is EPA emissions compliant and its exhaust is equipped with a spark arrestor for environmentally-friendly riding.

When it comes to saddling up and preparing to ride, its 22-inch seat height is easy to straddle and starts up with an easy-to-use electric starter (there’s also a kickstarter as a backup). At a claimed 119 pounds, this bike won’t be difficult to maneuver. When the kids hit the brakes, they’ll be activating drums at each end. The front brake lever is adjustable in order to fit a variety of hand sizes.

Sending the dirt flying is a set of 10-inch knobby tires. An inverted telescopic fork and link-type rear suspension take on berms and bumps.

The price of admission is $2,499, which is a considerable increase from last year’s $2,209, especially seeing as there are no changes.
