Husqvarna has been in the kids electric motorcycle game for a few years, unveiling its first-ever mini bike model, the EE 5, during the EICMA show in 2018. For the 2023 model year, the EE 5 returns to the lineup alongside Husqvarna’s new EE 3.
The EE 3 opens the world of off-road to eager kids with its modest 3.8kW motor, which equates to about 5 hp. The battery uses 60 lithium-ion cells that store up to 648Wh of energy, providing up to two hours of easygoing riding or around 30 minutes in more aggressive riding scenarios. An 80 percent charge can be reached in 30 minutes; a full charge takes an hour.
The little e-moto has a tip sensor that cuts power instantly if the system detects a rollover. A wrist lanyard will also cut power if the rider loses control of the bike. It will feature six different ride modes, which can be saved or locked to allow parents to prevent little riders from accidentally accessing too much power.
A chromium-molybdenum steel frame is suspended by a WP Xact 35mm fork and fully adjustable WP shock. Air in the left fork leg can be adjusted via air pump to account for rider weight and/or preference. The bike rolls on 10-inch aluminum wheels and Maxxis MX-ST tires and features hydraulic brakes with wave discs, front and rear. Seat height is adjustable from between 23.6 inches in the standard position and 21.9 inches in the lowered position.
The EE 3 is available now at authorized Husqvarna dealers starting at $5,049.
The EE 5 replicates the feel and power output of a 50cc machine, offering a peak power output of 5kW and a battery that contains 84 lithium-ion cells inside its die-cast casing. It can store up to 907Wh of energy and provide up to two hours of general-use riding or 25 minutes of race-pace riding. An 80 percent charge takes around 45 minutes while a full charge will take 70 minutes.
As with the EE 3, the EE 5 will feature a multifunction instrument panel where riders can toggle through six different ride modes. It will also cut power in the event of a tip-over, offer a safety lanyard to kill power if the rider loses control, and allow parents to lock ride modes.
The EE 5 makes use of WP Xact suspension front and rear and a chromium-molybdenum frame. It rolls on 12-inch front and 10-inch rear aluminum wheels with Maxxis MX-ST tires. Seat height ranges from 26.2 inches in the standard position and 24.2 in the lowered position. Parents can also opt to add a Suspension Lower Kit as an accessory to bring seat height down to 21.7 inches.
The EE 5 is available now at authorized Husqvarna dealers starting at $5,549.
