Ducati will enhance its fourth-generation Monster platform in 2023 with the new Monster SP, a top-of-the-line Monster calibrated for sport-riding performance, with a number of up-spec elements and a reduced curb weight. The bike will start at $15,595.
The Bologna brand started with its current Monster base, which was introduced to the world as a 2021 model. Updates back then were substantial, including a new transmission and quickshifter, a completely new aluminum frame and glass-fiber-reinforced polymer subframe, a slimmer swingarm, new wheels, and a narrower cockpit. On the road, the improved gearbox proved its worth with vastly improved movement through the gears while the weight savings and updated perch contributed to an even more nimble feel.
The 2023 Monster SP takes things a few steps further. Higher-spec Brembo Stylema calipers and new 320mm discs, plus a lithium-ion battery, contribute to a 4.4-pound weight reduction over the standard Monster model.
The 937cc liquid-cooled Testastretta 11° L-twin is unchanged, but its power output can be further refined thanks to a new Wet riding mode, which limits the bike to 75 hp and maxes out settings on the Cornering ABS and traction control systems. Its sonic qualities are enhanced as well thanks to the standard Termignoi exhaust.
The agile machine is enhanced by the Öhlins NIX 30 fork and Öhlins shock, both calibrated specifically for the bike and fully adjustable in order to meet the needs of riders in a variety of riding situations, particularly on the track. The standard Pirelli Diablo Rosso IV tires and steering damper accentuate the Monster SP’s track-ready-out-of-the-box aspect. The 4.3-inch color TFT dash comes with racing graphics inspired by the Panigale V4 as well.
Additional aesthetic touches include a small front fairing and passenger seat cover. The SP will come in a Ducati Red/Racing Red/Amaranth Red/Glossy Black colorway.
